3. Learning Delight!

A cornucopia of creative, entertaining and inspiring science based adventures for all children. Learning Delight will encourage campers to think about and explore their everyday world and answer such questions as: where do television and radio signals come from and how do we see and hear them? What happens in an engine? Can a plant run a car? Learning Delight topics include Astronomy, Meteorology, Geology, Environment and Aviation. Both indoor and outdoor learning combined with hands on activities such as making parachutes, electromagnets and cave art painting allows students to learn how the world really works! From household machines, computers and electricity to decoding an alien space message and even exploring our own “myth busters” we will inspire discovery while learning to understand and record all of our observations and findings.

4. Snap, Crackle, Pop!

We will discover together what makes popcorn pop, soda fizz, ice cream melt, form Oobleck and more! Young scientists will learn skills for problem solving, probing scientific principles, creative
thinking, decision making, measuring and classifying matter. We will address the “how’s” “why’s” and
“what-if’s” of basic scientific principles by combining kitchen chemistry, nature, a little bit of
magic and lots of fun! The class culminates in a Science Olympiad where the students present their
favorite experiments. Medals for extreme accomplishment and creativity will be awarded to all.

6. My Green Thumb

What is soil? How do seeds grow? What are roots and how do they function? These and many more questions will be explored in My Green Thumb. In this hands-on class, we will dissect a flower to learn the parts of a plant and discover how smart plants really are! Our class will focus on organic gardening and how plants’ growing environment affects their size, beauty and health. We will learn about gardening’s “tools of the trade” such as the hoe and spade. Each child will plant their own flowers, herbs and vegetables that can be transplanted to your backyard. |

8. Into The Woods

If you can imagine a mysterious forest filled with giant trees of winding branches and human-like forms, then you can sculpt it. Using clay and different methods of sculpture, students will be inspired by the physical and natural world around us to create imaginative tree sculptures. We will study two different methods of sculpture: additive, in which we build up clay and subtractive, where we carve a form from a block. Picasso and Emily Carr and other artists have been inspired by trees and forests. We will examine their work, discover our individual inspiration and design our own sculpture! |

9. The Sorcerer's Apprentice

10. Checkmate I

An introduction to the exciting world of chess. Students will learn basic opening, middlegame, and endgame strategies and how to achieve a proper coordination of pieces. Chess notation will be taught in order to review games. Instruction will establish an appropriate balance between lecture, discussion and structured play. Today we have science and technology to help us answer these questions but our ancient ancestors didn’t. They created myths, folktales and fascinating legends to help explain these questions. We will examine these myths and legends to see how cultures from the far corners of the world often come up with similar tales and stories to explain the mysteries of the universe. We will also create our own myths answering our own questions about animals, nature and people. |

Welcome to the exciting world of aeromodeling. The milestones of aviation will be highlighted from the Wright Brothers to modern day drones. Our financial club will also develop a new company and bring an I.P.O. to market. All Wizards will learn how to obtain stock quotes, look up annual reports and study a company via the Internet. Challenge Camp 2010 is now accepting applications for will aspiring flight aviators to sign up for computer flight simulation and team training. The GT Top Flight Gun School offers an intensive program with hours of hands-on training in instrumentation, solo and team flight, way point navigation and radar reading.The students will use a fully networked multimedia computer lab. Aviators will also participate in a team physical challenges and activities including obstacles courses, scavenger hunts and fitness training. The group will be divided into two Top Gun Squadrons instilling self-confidence and camaraderie. This competition will promote leadership and teamwork as they earn medals in our Top Gun Tournament. Each Aviator will receive a flight software program.

43. Counselor In Training (CIT)

This course designed for students who are 15 years old is an exceptional opportunity to learn and train to be a counselor in the Challenge environment. The course meets daily first period and will involve such topics as : Camper socialization, Assistant teaching and coaching, Building self-esteem, Conflict resolution and more. Lunch is provided and the remainder of the day will be spent hands on with our campers utilizing new skills. CIT'S will receive full CPR and FIRST AID certification as part of this curriculum. This course is continuous for 7 weeks and will allow you to grow as an individual with an emphasis on achievement, maturity and responsibility.
